...the goals of collaborative practice
Collaborative practice helps divorcing and separating couples focus on reaching solutions that work for the whole family. Collaborative Practice promotes respect, keeps you and your spouse in control of decisions, addresses you and your families' unique concerns, and enhances your ability to communicate in the future.
Collaborative Family Law Association professionals are trained and dedicated to helping you find a dignified approach to divorce; the Goals of Collaborative Practice are:
- To empower you to engage in the decision-making process to resolve all issues.
- To provide a safe, non-adversarial, and structured setting in which to discuss and resolve each issue.
- To help manage emotions in order to clarify and effectively communicate needs and goals.
- To promote effective tools of communication and resolution to foster creative and workable solutions, rather than playing the "blame game".
- To avoid the traditional divorce process that often involves subpoenas, court battles, personal attacks, and "winning at all costs".
- To consider the children's needs in developing solutions while protecting them from parental disputes.
- To promote a healthy way to move forward and plan for the future, rather than arguing about the past.
- To foster a cooperative agreement that will increase the likelihood of long-term success.
- To prepare and file all written paperwork required by the court.
